Since 1994 I have established and maintained a thriving technical writing consulting business. During this time I have been responsible for designing, authoring, and publishing on-line help systems, websites, user guides, requirement and design specifications, policies and procedures, training materials, and promotional products. I also offer training courses on technical writing to industry and through the Continuing Education Department of Mount Royal College.
Although technical writing and web design is both my passion and livelihood today, my training was originally as an Engineer and Geologist. I studied mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo for 3 1/2 years before switching to Geology at Lakehead University.

After completing my 4-year Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Geology, I started work with a major oil and gas company here is Calgary. Initially I worked as a grass-roots geologist but as my career developed, I became a well log data analyst and eventually coordinated a group of 13 research scientist and analysts. At this point I had developed a solid foundation with computers; as a user, a developer, and a budding project manager. During these years I honed my writing skills and began to discover that I had both a passion and ability for writing.

After moving to a smaller oil and gas company in IT support and as project manager, and in the wake of some drastic organization changes that were occurring in that company, I made the leap to become a Technical Writer–a career decision that I have enjoyed ever since.
